Rye Neck Middle School

RULER Program

Rye Neck Middle School is entering phase 2 of the RULER program.  This means that students will participate in the RULER program beginning this year.  RULER is a program out of Yale's Center for Emotional Intelligence and is based on the work of Marc Brackett, Ph.D.

RULER aims to create an environment where people recognize their emotions and deal with them in effective, productive ways.  Throughout the year, your child will be learning quite a bit about this program.  Please check back here often for updates.

Below, please find a link to a Good Morning America segment about this program.

RULER Tip Sheet

RULER Family Night - There will be a special event on the night of Thursday, January 16th at 6:00 pm in the Dining Hall.  To support our RULER training, the Rye Neck Middle School RULER Team will host a RULER Family Night.  We will share news about the progress our students are making as they learn the skills of Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating their emotions.  The activity of the evening will be an exercise in how to create a "family charter" to mirror the creation of our school charters, so families should attend together.  Through this process, we will learn how family members want to feel and what we can do to help them feel that way.
