The Rye Neck HS Mock Trial Team going strong in the county competition at the White Plains Court House. They have advanced five rounds and are undefeated thus far in the competition. Last Thursday, they defeated Solomon Schechter in the Quarterfinals. Their next competition is Thursday, March 25th, when their prosecution team will compete against Ossining in the Westchester County semi-finals.  If you have not had the opportunity to see this team in action you may want to stop by the court house this Thursday at 5:30 and watch.

    HS Sports Update

Spring sports season is just around the corner with tryouts complete and team roosters being finalized.  We are looking forward to the warmer weather and the fun of returning the fields.

Congratulations to Kalypso Longinotti-Buitoni who finished 13th in the Slalom of the Eastern Ski Championships.

    Message from Dr. Mustich, Superintendent

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department called earlier today to notify us of a stranger danger incident in the community on Tuesday morning.  An older model white sedan with a male driver inside stopped near an 11 year old girl waiting for a school bus in the Harbor Heights area of the Mamaroneck School District.  The male is described as possibly Hispanic, having hair slightly below his ears, slightly heavy set, and short. Without saying a word, the driver beckoned the child to enter the vehicle.  The girl rightly refused the driver’s advance, and instead boarded the school bus, which was traveling just behind the car.

ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CAN BE FORWARDED TO YOUTH DETECTIVE OSVALDO RAMOS @ 914-825-8562

Parents are encouraged to be vigilant for suspicious activity regarding their children and to reinforce basic safety precautions:

    - Do not talk to strangers

    - Never enter a vehicle with a stranger

    - Walk in public areas when possible and walk in groups

    - Try to remember license plate numbers or other descriptive information

-Call 911 immediately and report suspicious behavior to the police

We will continue to work together with the police department and parents to ensure the safety of children.

    Rye Neck PTSA Spring Fair

The annual PTSA Spring Fair is just around the corner. This year's theme is the Rye Neck Country Fair. If you have not made plans to attend, please make sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, April 10th, from 11:00 a.m.- 4:00p.m., on the MS/HS Campus.  After the challenging winter we have just experienced it will certainly be a welcomed change.

    Snow Days / Calendar Change

    Snow Days/Calendar Change

Just a reminder, as per the district calendar, schools will be open on the following two days: Monday, April 5th & Tuesday, April 6th.  These days represent the two snow days used for the 2009-2010 school year. School will be closed on Friday, May 28, the unused snow day.  However, if we have a snow storm between now and then, we will need to have a regular school day on May 28th.

"Emerging Artist Exhibition” at the Rye Art Center
Rye Neck students, Daisuke Takai, Nicole Bruenn, and Casey Haviland have their art work on display  in the Emerging Artist Exhibition at the Rye Art Center on Midland Ave. in Rye.  Their artwork will be on exhibit through March 24th.  Please try to stop by and see their work and the work of various high school students from Westchester and Lower Fairfield counties.
SmartBoard Technology at Bellows and Daniel Warren

There are now daily televised announcements at Bellows with our own Ms. Longabucco as anchor, joined each day by a different student.  Every whiteboard in the building comes alive with important student information for that day.  This technology also allows us to link to schools around the country and the world.  Most recently, Bellows linked to a rural school in Nebraska and at Daniel Warren they have linked to a school in Laredo, Texas.  It is amazing to be part of the interaction and to bring life to places that we see on the map. This is just the first step in how technology is changing the way we deliver instruction and how we make learning real.

    Bellows Science and Technology Fair

The Bellow's Science Fair was a huge success with the quality and variety of experiments surpassing fairs of the past.  With 120 participants the excitement was contagious as the following tri-county winners were announced:

4th Grade - Ryan Francavilla, Bennett Taylor, Griffin Wollowitz,  Sophie Gibson & Jessica Gottlieb, Eloise Smith, James Lord, Anthony Maulucci

5th Grade - Nadine Eenkema van Dijk, Will Stastny, Robby Alter, Will Sambrook, Shantanu Jha, Reed Peterson, Benjamin Banker

Message from Dr. Mustich about State Aid
As you are aware, we were very concerned about the delay of state aid payments that the Governor imposed in December for our district.   This represented $550,000 of monies that we had planned for, and were expecting, this school year.  After much lobbying and discussion, the Governor released the money for this year.  We are still very concerned with the state of the State and the impact this can have on our fiscal plans.  We continue to work to secure what our District deserves as we look forward to the 2010-11 budget.
Early Dismissals, School Delays and Closings
As winter approaches, please remember that in the event of an early dismissal, school delay or closing, the district will notify the community via four methods:

    2) A recorded message on the district's main number 777-5200
    3) An announcement on radio stations WFAS (1230 AM, 103.9 FM or 106.3) WVOX (1460 AM), or CBS (880AM)
    4) An announcement on Cable TV, News Channel 12 or www.news12.com
